The Supreme Court is expected to strike down part or all of what has been called “Obama Care.” This may actually be a blessing in disguise if people turn out to demand public option. According to the constitution, protecting the welfare of the people is a duty of government. This means things like educating our children and providing them with basic healthcare should not be limited to those lucky enough to be born to rich parents. When the court strikes down any part of the health care bill, lobbyists will descend on Washington like vultures. We need to start getting ready now so that the vultures are lost in a sea of doves. American cannot be a great nation while it’s children languish. Universal healthcare, at least for our children!
Interesting article. So if Congress denies us the affordable care, the “public option”, and all it could include, may well be a desirable alternative to those of us with pre-existing conditions. I still have hope they will “do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do”. We shall see.
Nancy, I agree that whatever we do needs to include those with pre-existing conditions. My own feeling is that this is not a job for the private sector. The profit motive should play no role in making these life or death decisions. We should figure out what basic health care for all should look like and then have insurance for more costly possibilities.
OK if we do not get “top of the line” insurance like our elected officials-theirs need to be cancelled. They are on “our paycheck”Perhaps they need to learn how to live like those they “serve.”
Kathleen, that would be a tide that raises all the boats -make our servants share in the consequences of their decisions.
