Plutocrats and demagogues wave the flag the same way a matador waves a red cape. Beneath the disguise of their gaudy patriotism lies a painful sword we will all see soon enough- tax breaks for the rich and austerity measures for the masses.
Before I pledge allegiance to a flag I want to know who is waving it and for what reason. A flag is no substitute for a constitution nor a government of the people, by the people and for the people.
And hating on immigrants is not the same thing as loving one’s country. To love one’s nation one must love its people more than one loves personal power, and love its land more than one loves personal wealth.
