It is encouraging to find that some Republicans were so offended by Todd Akins’ claim that raped women don’t get pregnant that they want to replace him on the ticket. The comment has hurt him some in the polls. The problem is that so many Americans from both parties vote party line that they will support a bad candidate from their own party over someone from the other side whom that might actually like better. The following N.Y. Times article summarizes the initial reaction of Republicans following Akins’ remarks.

I’m intrigued by one of the remarks in the Times article: Ms. Barnes echoed Mr. Akin’s statement that very few rapes resulted in pregnancy, adding that “at that point, if God has chosen to bless this person with a life, you don’t kill it.”
The question I have been wanting to pose to Mr. Huckabee and others is “Is it God’s will that caused the rape?” I think this might be part of the “God is in control” theology. I’m really not sure what kind of God we have if that God wills rape to happen. If a woman has a miscarriage, is that God’s will as well – perhaps it was “meant to be…”? If so, God is the abortionist!
The next possible issue will be – if a woman has a miscarriage, will she be brought up on charges “until proven innocent” if abortions are outlawed?
